Small time grifter, Charlie holds himself responsible for the death of his son. Trying to right his wrongs, he collides with a well meaning loser named Tommy G, a wanna-be actor who thinks he looks like Tom Hardy. They rob a liquor store to pay a gambling debt to a frightening mob boss, Big Angie, only to find out the store is owned by the mobster. The more they try to fix it, the more it unravels.

The show was previously produced at Teddington Studios for the first series.Today with Des and Mel was loosely based on the format of the popular American television show, Live with Regis and Kelly.At one stage, the show was given the green light for an evening version to be made. For a short time in January 2005, the show appeared in a 5 p.m. slot, but this was soon dropped, and a full prime-time version never came about.ITV announced on 12 May 2006, that the show had been axed.

Soon we wondered if we could control technology, or if it would control us. This film is by turns light-hearted and thoughtful, and rare historical and archival film, produced by government and industry, alternates with on-screen interviews with people as diverse as consumer advocate Ralph Nader, cartoonist Matt Groening, futurist Alvin Toffler, comedienne Phyllis Diller, and actor Martin Mull.
